Safety
At Graves Mechanical, we believe that there is no better way to demonstrate how much we care about our employees and our customers than to have a robust safety program.
We have an absolute belief that a zero loss workplace is possible. We believe that if we can go one day without a loss, then we can go every day without a loss. When it comes to safety and risk management our practices are not only developed to prevent injury to employees, but extend to preventing losses to automobiles, and damage to property or equipment.
We provide tools and training to our employees so they understand the consequences of at-risk behaviors and learn how to perform their job without putting themselves or others in harm’s way.
Experience Modification Rate (EMR)
Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is a crucial metric used by insurance companies to evaluate a company's past cost of workplace injuries and the likelihood of future risks. The EMR serves as a comparison tool, benchmarking a company's safety performance against industry standards. A lower EMR rating indicates a better safety record, with fewer accidents and injuries, as compared to others in the same industry. Maintaining a low EMR rating is of paramount importance because it reflects the effectiveness of a company's safety programs and policies, and it directly impacts workers' compensation insurance premiums. A low EMR not only reduces insurance costs but also enhances a company's reputation, making it more competitive for bidding on projects, attracting clients, and retaining top talent. It signifies a commitment to employee safety and overall business efficiency, which ultimately contributes to long-term growth and success.

The Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)
The Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) is a key safety performance indicator used by organizations to measure the number of occupational injuries and illnesses occurring in a workplace. It is calculated by taking the total number of recordable incidents per 100 employees during a specified period, typically one year. The average TRIR rating per 100 employees provides valuable insight into the overall safety culture and performance of a company. Industry wide including state and local govenrment is 3/100 and the number drops to 2.8/100 for private industry. A TRIR rating of less than 1 is highly desirable, as it demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and reflects a proactive approach to preventing workplace incidents. Achieving a low TRIR rating helps reduce risks, protect employees, and can positively impact a company's reputation, productivity, and financial performance.
